Terrance Smith, 49, was charged with abandonment of a corpse after his roommate’s body was found on the couch in their shared apartment.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A St. Louis County man is facing a criminal charge after his roommate’s body was found decomposing in their apartment.
Terrance Smith, 49, was charged with abandonment of a corpse after his roommate’s body was found on the couch in their shared apartment.
According to the probable cause statement, police were requested on Jan. 21 to conduct a welfare check for a woman who lived at an apartment on Dragonwyck Drive. When they arrived at the apartment, they found her body on the couch under blankets and clothing.
Police said the unnamed victim’s body was cold to the touch and displayed signs of decomposition.
During their investigation, police discovered she was behind on her rent and had not posted on social media since Dec. 15. Other residents of the apartment said they had not seen her since mid-December.
Police said some of Smith’s personal items were at the apartment, but he was not. On Feb. 2, Smith returned to the building, and an employee at the leasing office called the police.
Officers arrived and took Smith into custody. He told them he lived in the apartment with the victim.
Police did not say how the victim died.
Smith was charged on Feb. 2. His bond was set at $100,000.
