16-year-old charged with murder after adoptive mother’s body found in trash can

LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. (KOCO) – A 16-year-old Oklahoma boy is charged as an adult in the death of his adoptive mother, whose body was found in a trash can, after he reportedly admitted to killing her.

The discovery of 49-year-old Spring Weems’ body was made last Wednesday after deputies were called for a welfare check by family members who hadn’t heard from her recently, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Deputies initially found two teenagers, who both lived with Spring Weems, at the home in Logan County. After speaking with them, they realized the 49-year-old was not present and began searching the property.

Spring Weems’ body was found in a trash can along the side of the street. She had injuries consistent with homicide.

“You’re talking about a woman who lost her life in just a brutal way,” said Hunter McKee, public information officer for OSBI. “This is just a terrible case. Nobody deserves to die as this woman did, so this is extremely sad.”

Deputies arrested Spring Weems’ adopted son, 16-year-old Jordan Cole Weems, in connection to her murder. He was charged Friday on one count of first-degree murder, desecration of a human corpse and unauthorized removal of a dead body, court records show.

One of Spring Weems’ other adopted sons, whose name was not released, told OSBI agents that he and Jordan Weems had recently been in trouble for sneaking out of their home and “running from law enforcement during the night,” according to a Logan County affidavit.

The two were being punished by having to write apology letters, and Jordan Weems reportedly had his clothes and bedding locked away. The affidavit states the 16-year-old was also made to wear an orange jumpsuit “to show him what life as a prisoner might be like if he did not start behaving.”

Jordan Weems had reportedly threated to kill his mother several times in the days before her murder, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states that in a later interview, the 16-year-old allegedly admitted to killing Spring Weems by striking her multiple times with a hammer before putting her body in the trash can.
