Houston police release new details about shooting that left 1 dead, 5 injured

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department is investigating the Saturday evening shooting on Homestead Road that left one person dead and five injured.

PREVIOUS REPORT: 1 dead, 5 injured after shooting erupts at trail ride event in Houston, HPD says

Officers were called to Homestead Road, where there was a large gathering that blocked the roadway, according to a statement from HPD.

When officers began clearing the scene, shots rang out in the adjoining parking lot, HPD said.

One person was taken to Lyndon Baines Johnson Hospital by paramedics, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The family of 24-year-old Cory “Sir Darius” Young identified him as the victim.

“I haven’t slept since Saturday,” Young’s Aunt Danetta Hill said. “It’s just a terrible loss. He was just a baby.”

Officers found two other victims, ages 15 and 16 years old, who were shot and taken to the hospital.

During the investigation, HPD officers learned an additional three victims took themselves to a nearby hospital, where they were all reported to be in stable condition, according to HPD.

The police department told ABC13 that it can’t confirm the shooting was connected with a trail ride, but the agency was not ruling it out at this time.

While the investigation continues, family and friends of the victims are calling for whoever is responsible to turn themselves in.

“I would like for you to turn yourself in. I would like for you to give us a call. Give us a courtesy call. Give us your condolences. Even if you call us anonymously. Give us your condolences because you know what you did,” Hill said.
