Goldsboro police investigate homicide after man found dead in apartment

The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating a homicide after a man was found dead inside an apartment Monday morning.

According to police, officers were first alerted to possible gunfire on Jan. 27, 2026, at approximately 4:54 a.m., after ShotSpotter technology detected shots fired in the 900 block of West Oak Street. Officers responded to the area but did not locate any victims at that time.

Later that morning, at approximately 10:26 a.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment in the same block of West Oak Street in reference to an unresponsive person. Emergency medical services responded to the scene and pronounced the individual deceased.

Following further investigation, authorities determined the victim appeared to have suffered from a single gunshot wound.

The Goldsboro Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit were called to the scene to continue the investigation. Police say the case remains active, and no additional details have been released at this time.

The victim has been identified as Ronald Eugene Edwards, a 61-year-old male from Goldsboro.
