Federal agents fatally shot a man this morning in south Minneapolis, setting off confrontations between protesters and agents at the scene.
It was the second fatal shooting involving federal agents who have arrived en masse in Minnesota as part of a massive immigration enforcement operation.
The Department of Homeland Security said the man was armed with a gun and two magazines of ammunition and circulated a photo of the weapon. DHS said the agent fired in self-defense. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), the state’s chief investigative agency, said it was not allowed access to the scene.
Two people familiar with the incident told the Minnesota Star Tribune that the man was Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37. The two people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose details of the incident.
Video shows several agents wrestling the man to the ground and shooting him multiple times.
