Woman arrested for striking, killing pedestrian

A woman is now in custody after police say she struck and killed a person on Breckenridge Lane, while under the influence. Louisville Metro Police arrested 60-year-old Julie Crass on Friday after conducting an interview with her regarding a fatal collision that took place on Tuesday. Just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday evening, police received reports of a person lying in the road, in front of the Kroger in the 3000 block of Breckenridge Lane. On the scene, police located the victim of the collision, who was later pronounced dead on the scene by EMS. Using surveillance video, officers saw Crass arrive at the store by herself and leave, hitting the victim and leaving the scene. Officers who viewed the video described Crass’s behavior as erratic and said it seemed as though she was under the influence of controlled substances. After identifying the vehicle and the driver, officers interviewed Crass at her home. When officers talked to Crass, she told them she knew why they were there and that she had hit a pedestrian. According to court documents, when officers asked why she left the scene, she told them, “I knew that when I hit him, it was it.”Crass told officers that she takes several medications, which police said they believe caused her driving abilities to be impaired.Documents also state that, during a search of her car, they found paper towels and cleaner, which they believe to have been used to try and destroy evidence.
