Lacey police officers and Thurston County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting at a Lacey apartment complex on Wednesday afternoon.

LACEY, Wash. — The Thurston County sheriff confirmed an armed suspect has died after a standoff at a Lacey apartment complex on Wednesday.

Lacey Police Department officers, SWAT and Thurston County deputies responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m. at the College Pointe Apartments in the 4600 block of 45th Avenue Southeast.

Sheriff Derek Sanders said the incident involved an “active shooter.” As authorities evacuated people from the apartments, Sanders said a shooting occurred between SWAT and the shooter.

No officers were hurt during the shooting.

Lacey police said earlier that a suspect with a gun was barricaded in an apartment. At 7:30 p.m., authorities said the “officer involved incident” will be investigated by the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations.

A man told KING 5 that he was driving to work earlier this afternoon when he heard a loud noise and his Tesla’s back windows had been shattered by the gunfire.

“It’s scary, very scary,” the driver, who did not want to be identified, told KING 5. “I didn’t know whether to cry. Tears were just rolling and I’m like, ‘did I just get shot at?’”

The man was not injured when his car was hit.

Police said the scene is “secure,” but law enforcement will remain in the area. People are urged to avoid the area of College Street and 45th Avenue Southeast.
