Large pile-up crash closes I-196 in West Michigan

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WILX) – A large, multi-car pileup has closed a portion of I-196 in West Michigan on Monday as the state deals with the latest round of winter weather.

Michigan State Police officials say the crash happened along the westbound lanes between 32nd Avenue and 64th Street near Hudsonville. Whiteout conditions have been reported along the lakeshore throughout the day.

MSP officials say drivers should avoid the area and seek an alternate route. MSP and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office personnel are handling the scene.

There are injuries involved in the crash, though MSP officials say the extent is unknown at this time.

A video posted to social media by the account Chicago & Midwest Storm Chasers shows upwards of 100 vehicles or more backed up along the freeway.
