ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 20-year-old woman has died after she was involved in a crash Wednesday evening in Fabius Township.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office says they were dispatched to Constantine and Shorewood roads for the crash.

The woman was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt north on Constantine Road when she lost control, hit the guard rail on the bridge, and went into the southbound lane.

A Chevy Silverado pickup was southbound on Constantine Road and slammed into her car on the driver’s side. Deputies say the woman was not buckled up and was later pronounced dead.

Ice and snow are believed to have been factors in the crash, but not speed or alcohol.

In the second deadly crash in St. Joseph County, sheriff’s deputies were called to Featherstone Road near Taylor Road in Sherman Township.

They believe the driver of a Mercury Mariner was westbound on Featherstone Road when they hit a deer and lost control due to icy road conditions.

The Mercury then crashed into a Chrysler Town and Country that was eastbound on Featherstone Road.

A 55-year-old woman from Sturgis was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 79-year-old Sturgis woman is hospitalized in critical condition.

Speed is likely a factor in Thursday night’s crash.
