A car slammed into a house in Raynham on Tuesday afternoon after an elderly driver suffered a medical episode and veered off the road, officials said.

Police responded to reports of a car crashing into a house at 1577 Broadway around 12:51 p.m., Raynham police said in a statement. When officers arrived, they found a black sedan lodged in the brick wall that forms the lower level of the home.

Investigators said the medical episode occurred while the driver, a Rhode Island man, was still on the roadway, leading him to drive over a lawn and into the house. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Boston Medical Center – South in Brockton, according to the statement.

Residents were inside the home at the time of the crash but were not injured. The town’s building department and the Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant assessed the house for damage, which police said was significant.

The crash remains under investigation.
