Rear-end crash in Johnson County injures woman

A passenger was injured Monday night in a rear-end crash on Highway 50 in Johnson County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at 7:50 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2026, on eastbound Highway 50 at Northeast 651 Road.

Troopers said a Ford Ranger slowed for traffic when it was struck from behind by a Toyota Avalon that was traveling east. Both vehicles were involved in the collision.

The driver of the Toyota Avalon, a 21-year-old woman from Sedalia, Missouri, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 74-year-old man from Valley Center, Kansas, was also wearing a seat belt.

A 59-year-old woman from Sedalia, Missouri, who was a passenger in the Toyota Avalon, suffered minor injuries. She was wearing a seat belt and refused medical treatment at the scene.

The Toyota Avalon sustained total damage and was towed from the scene by Tip Top Towing. The Ford Ranger had minor damage and was driven away from the scene.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the crash investigation.
