SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Two people were arrested Saturday afternoon during a protest when they blocked traffic in front of City Hall, police said.

Miranda Brawner, 30, was arrested for willful obstruction of law enforcement, pedestrian in roadway, and unlawful assembly. Lucas Gilkeson, 25, was arrested for disorderly conduct, unlawful assembly, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, and pedestrian in roadway.

The two were arrested around 12:05 p.m. at Bull Street and East Bay Street.

Protesters were marching from Forsyth Park to City Hall on the sidewalks of Drayton Street when a small group deviated from the sidewalks to march in the middle of both lanes of the street, according to police. Uniformed patrol officers in marked police vehicles repeatedly announced over the loudspeaker to stay on the sidewalks.

At one point, a fire truck with emergency equipment activated attempted to drive through but instead took Oglethorpe Avenue. The two arrested individuals stayed in the middle of the roadway in front of City Hall, blocking police vehicles and general traffic while the other protesters remained on the sidewalks.

Both individuals were taken into custody. One ran and resisted officers.
