Two suspects arrested after east side robbery

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Two men have been arrested after a robbery on Madison’s east side, the Madison Police Department confirmed.

Officials say a call came in around 1:45 a.m. Friday from the 1700 block of Thierer Road.

MPD says a man offered to give a woman a ride, and two men suddenly jumped into the car.

Money was taken from the victim’s pockets, and the two suspects ran into a nearby apartment.

Officers were able to find the suspects. As one of them pulled the stolen money from his sock, drugs fell out.

Two men, 31-year-old Percell T. Swiney and 22-year-old Melvin D. Jackson were arrested for strong-armed robbery. Jackson also faces charges of possession of heroin.

Both suspects were taken to Dane County Jail.

The woman was not arrested, though officials say “probable cause was developed to arrest the woman for armed robbery (party to a crime).”

MPD confirmed to WMTV Sunday night that the case was “likely a set up.” The woman was not arrested because her identity has not been confirmed.

The case remains under investigation.
