Body found in north Phoenix desert area near Mayo Clinic hospital

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A disturbing discovery was made on Tuesday afternoon when a body was found east of the Mayo Clinic hospital in Phoenix.

Police said officers were called to the area of 64th Street and Mayo Boulevard, just south of the Loop 101 freeway, around 1 p.m. When they arrived, they found the body in a secluded desert area.

Investigators said it’s unclear how the person died but there were no obvious signs of injuries. Police added they’re not looking for suspects at this time. The person’s name hasn’t been released.

It’s up to the Office of the Maricopa County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death and how long the victim was dead before their body was discovered.

This is the same area where 29-year-old Lauren Heike was found dead in April 2023. She was out for a walk on the Reach 11 trail when police said Zion Teasley ambushed and chased her, then stabbed her 15 times.
