A Christian mother of two was found dead inside a rubbish bin at her Oklahoma home on 29th January after neighbours reported a violent fight between her adopted teenage sons.
Spring Weems, 47, a member of the non-denominational evangelical Life Church, was discovered after police were called to the property following reports of a dispute involving weapons.
Officers were told by one of the boys that his brother had killed their mother and hidden her body in a bin.
Police later located Weems’s remains inside the bin. Her injuries were described as suspicious and consistent with homicide.
One of the teenagers was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and placed in juvenile detention. Police had not formally laid charges and had not released the suspect’s name or age.
The two boys, reported to be aged 16 and 17, had been adopted by Weems, who was their sole caretaker. The family lived together near Oklahoma City.
Weems regularly attended Life Church and was active in her faith.
In one post she recalled teaching her children not to fight, but to love each other.
“Our FATHER wants the same for us, so tomorrow let’s reflect on UNITY, as we are ALL brothers and sisters under the same Creator, & HE wants HIS children to live in harmony TOGETHER!” she wrote in one post.
Neighbours described the area as normally peaceful. One told KFOR it was tragic because it involved young people.
Logan County Undersheriff Troy Dykes said the investigation remained ongoing. Weems’s body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy.
