A Jasper County man, initially charged with murder in a Louisiana woman’s death and released on a $750,000 bond, was arrested on unrelated charges after bonding out.

JASPER, Texas — A Jasper County man charged with murder in the shooting death of a Louisiana woman was released from jail Wednesday after posting a $750,000 bond, only to be arrested hours later on unrelated charges and released again.

Tevin Sells, 27, of Jasper County, bonded out of the Newton County jail on Wednesday after posting the three-quarter million dollar bond on the murder charge, according to Sheriff Colton Havard.

New charges were then filed by the Jasper Police Department, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard, though details about what led to those charges must come from the police department. Jasper County jail records show Sells bonded out at 10 p.m. Wednesday on three new charges: possession of marijuana ($5,000 bond), driving while license invalid with previous conviction ($10,000 bond), and unlawful possession of a weapon ($15,000 bond).

Sells was arrested on Friday, Jan. 23 and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Asia Marie Scott, 22, of DeRidder, Louisiana, according to Newton Police Department Chief Will Jackson. He was the second suspect arrested in the case.

Scott was killed on her birthday after a dispute escalated into gunfire at a party in a Newton neighborhood known as “The Hill.” She was taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Three men were also injured in the shooting.
