Firefighters responding to an early-morning fire Friday at an East Anchorage trailer home found a person and multiple pets dead inside, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.

The department was called to the Malaspina Trailer Court at about 3:15 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find the rear of the mobile home engulfed by the fire, spokesperson Megan Peters said.

Firefighters found a deceased person inside after entering the structure, which was filled with thick smoke, according to the department.

“Firefighters did their best to revive the victim after they were located, but efforts were ultimately unsuccessful,” Peters said.

Multiple dogs were also found dead inside the home, she said.

Hot embers were still being found hours after the fire was extinguished at about 6:30 a.m., according to the department and Peters.

The origin and cause of the fire had not yet been determined, the department said. Peters said an investigator was on the scene as of Friday morning.

The Anchorage Police Department also responded, Peters said. A department spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for additional information.
