FERNDALE, Wash. — One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Ferndale, according to Washington State Patrol.
According to WSP, the crash was reported around 4 p.m.
All southbound lanes were blocked for over two miles, near Main Street and Slater Road in Whatcom County.
As of 9:10 p.m., the roadway reopened.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a northbound vehicle crossed the median into the southbound lanes and hit another vehicle.
The 22-year-old driver of the vehicle hit was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person in her vehicle was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital in unknown condition.
It’s unclear what caused the other driver to cross into oncoming traffic.
The crash is still under investigation and it’s unknown at this time if that driver will face charges.
