Maryland man charged with murder after deadly shooting spree

A Maryland man is accused of murdering one man and shooting at three others on Sunday.

Damonte Marcel Williams, 26, of Upper Marlboro, faces charges relating to the murder of 65-year-old Joseph Holt III, also of Upper Marlboro. Williams also faces charges relating to three other non-fatal shootings, according to the Prince George’s Police Department (PGPD).

Holt died in his car around 7:20 a.m. on Sunday near the Watkins Park Plaza, PGPD officials said.

Around 8:10 p.m., officers received reports of shootings in the area around Darlenen Street and Cambleton Drive in Upper Marlboro. A man and a woman were both shot in their own cars and injured, according to PGPD.

A third person was shot at in their car, but was not hurt. Williams was arrested “within minutes” on Darlenen Street and found a gun at one of the scenes of a shooting, according to PGPD.

The gun that was found was the same gun that was used to murder Holt, police said.

The woman who was shot in her car is in critical condition, while the man is in stable condition, according to PGPD.

All the victims, including Holt, were randomly targeted, police said.

Alongside first and second degree murder charges relating to Holt’s death, Williams faces three counts of attempted first and second degree murder and related charges due to the three non-fatal shootings.
