COLFAX, Calif. — The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that they are continuing an extensive search for a female hiker who was reported missing near Codfish Falls Trail outside the city of Colfax.

The investigation began shortly before 6 p.m. Friday when authorities received a report that a woman had not returned as expected. According to officials, she was last seen walking along the trail with her dog around 2:30 p.m. Approximately 15 minutes later, the dog was spotted by itself.

During the initial response Friday evening, deputies located the woman’s vehicle nearby. Search teams also discovered her cellphone and a dog bowl close to the riverbank. The dog has since been recovered and is unharmed.

Officials have been conducting coordinated search operations using ground crews, aircraft, and water-based teams. On Saturday, divers and boats searched the nearby river, while aerial units surveyed the area where the woman was last known to be, including locations both upstream and downstream. Additional support has been provided by CAL FIRE NEU and California State Parks, and the California Office of Emergency Services is assisting with overnight searches through the use of FIRIS aerial technology.

Officials say the search remains active, with multiple agencies continuing to work together as efforts move forward.
