SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — A South Bend police officer has been arrested after an off-duty incident on Wednesday.
Police were called to the 1900 block of Trent Way in South Bend at 3:30 a.m. to investigate a possible domestic dispute.
When officers arrived, they spoke with a female victim who said her husband had become physical during an argument.
Upon learning the suspect was a South Bend police officer, the responding officers contacted the St. Joseph County Police to take over the investigation.
St. Joseph County Police responded and arrested 29-year-old Robert Neufer on a preliminary charge of Domestic Battery Committed in the Presence of a Child.
Neufer is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail while he awaits a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
He has been relieved of duty pending further criminal and internal investigations.
