Rock Co. man accused of killing child, hiding corpse found competent to stand trial

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Rock County man accused of killing a child and hiding the corpse has been found competent to stand trial, online court records show.

Wisconsin Circuit Court records show Dayveon D. Lathrop had a competency hearing Monday morning, where it was determined, he can go to trial.

Lathrop, who turns 22 on Wednesday, is accused of killing his 8-year-old adopted sister in their home and hiding her body from police.

Police eventually found her body in a tote in the home’s laundry room.

Monday’s hearing marks the third competency hearing for Lathrop, who was found not competent to stand trial back in July. His first trial was canceled due to the order of the first competency hearing.

Lathrop’s jury trial is expected to begin on July 20, 2026.
