Big Island police arrested a 34-year-old woman following a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a Hilo doctor on Christmas Eve near the 13-mile marker on Daniel K. Inouye Highway in Hilo. A 2020 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was headed eastbound when it crossed the center line when it struck a 2025 Mazda convertible head-on as it was traveling westbound. Hilo Benioff Medical Center identified her as Dr. Judy FitzGerald who worked at the hospital.
