  • An armed customer at a DMV in Delaware murdered a state trooper before being shot and killed by a police officer who responded to the scene, officials said.
  • The incident occurred around 2 p.m. at the Wilmington DMV on 2230 Hessler Boulevard. Police said a 44-year-old man entered the DMV as a customer. A short time later, he approached a Delaware State Trooper who was working an overtime assignment at the reception desk inside the DMV. The man then pulled out a gun and shot the state trooper, officials said.
  • After being shot, the trooper pushed a DMV employee out of harm’s way as the gunman opened fire and shot him a second time, according to investigators.
  • Multiple police agencies responded to the scene. A New Castle County Police officer then confronted the suspect and shot him, officials said.
  • Both the gunman and the trooper were taken to local hospitals where they both were pronounced dead. Officials have not yet released their names.
