Police investigate after 6-week-old child found dead at Mississippi motel

Police have launched an investigation into the death of an infant discovered early Monday morning at a Mississippi motel.

Officers were dispatched to the Motel 6 on Greenway Drive in Jackson after a 6-week-old boy was found unresponsive. According to the Jackson Police Department, the child’s mother and father discovered the infant was not breathing at approximately 6 a.m. in the room where the family was staying.

Preliminary reports indicate the parents last saw the child alive at approximately 2 a.m. Investigators questioned both parents at the scene as part of the standard inquiry into the unattended death.

Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard confirmed the age and gender of the infant. The body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death.

The investigation remains ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
