PITTSBURG, Kan. (WIBW) – A man has died of his injuries after he was struck by a car early Sunday in Cherokee County in southeast Kansas, officials said.
The collision was reported at 12:22 a.m. Sunday near S. 260th Street and 510th Avenue. The location was about four miles southeast of Pittsburg.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2020 Hyundai Elantra was northbound on S. 260th Street when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.
The pedestrian, identified as Nicklas Thompson, 37, of Pittsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Hyundai’s driver, identified as Melinda Canet, 54, of Pittsburg, was transported to an area hospital with suspected minor injuries. The patrol said Canet, who was alone in the car, was wearing her seat belt.
