A man and his two dogs were found dead in an icy lake at VOA Metro Park in West Chester following a large search. It all started Wednesday when maintenance workers found items near a lake, leading them to believe someone might be in the water.Crews quickly responded and started searching the water, pulling a dog from the water. Soon after, a man was located and also recovered from the water, along with another dog. “You do think is it one of my kids? Is it someone I know?” Deborah who lives in West Chester said. “And then I did hear later this afternoon that they did find him and he had drowned. I’m so sorry.”Aerial views show a massive response, with two boats in the water and divers taking turns entering the lake. A fire truck’s ladder is suspended above the water, providing crews with an aerial perspective. Task Force One, Liberty, Deerfield Township, and West Chester responders are all present at the scene.”We walk here all the time and we probably looked at this gentlemen in the face and just said hi and just kept moving, so we are heartbroken about it,” Jackie Hunter said.Officials said teams used technology like sonar to search the lake and ultimately dive teams were called in to recover the body. Officials believe the dog ran into the water, possibly chasing geese, and the man ran after the dog. “Thinking about my own dog, and my friends and all the people that I know that we come up here so, it’s very upsetting and I’m so sorry that this happened,” Deborah said. Some suggesting there should be warnings around bodies of water that are known to freeze during the colder months.”Ice is thin or whatever, do not walk on the ice, don’t go past this point, keep your animals on a leash at all times, don’t allow them to be free and roam cause just in a quick second it could happen,” Hunter said.
