LOWVILLE — The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office investigated two unrelated snowmobile crashes last weekend.
The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a snowmobile crash Sunday with multiple injuries in the town of Martinsburg.
Upon further investigation, deputies learned the crash involved a 16-year-old juvenile pedestrian, a parked snowmobile and Ashley R. Welch, 39, of New Berlin, who was operating a 2018 Ski-Doo snowmobile. An unknown event lead to Welch losing control and striking a juvenile pedestrian along with a parked snowmobile. The operator and juvenile were treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries and transported to Samaritan Medical Center for further treatment. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Martinsburg Fire Department and Lewis County Search and Rescue.
A report of a two-snowmobile crash with no injuries was reported at about 4 p.m. Saturday.
Upon arrival, deputies reported that two 14-year-old juveniles were riding with their guardians, traveling in opposite directions on McGoldrick Truck Trail C4C, West Turin.
While both operators were negotiating a curve, they locked skis and collided. One of the snowmobiles did not have insurance and the guardian was issued a traffic ticket returnable to town of West Turin Court.
