CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police discovered a body in a car behind a north Charlotte church Thursday morning.

The vehicle matches the description of the car belonging to a missing Charlotte mother, Frezja Baker.

However, investigators have not identified the body found inside the vehicle. As of Thursday night, police had only labeled the case as a death investigation.

Dozens of people joined the search for Baker since her disappearance on Dec. 4. Brittany Robinson, a distant relative, went to the scene on Sanders Avenue after seeing images of Baker’s car on social media.

“I found out, actually, on Facebook, someone had circulated the picture of her car right behind the church, and I did my research. They didn’t say what street it was, but I knew I was going to come out here and find out what was going on,” Robinson said.

Baker, 31, was last seen around 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the intersection of Lasalle Street and Newcastle Street, which is about 1.5 miles from where her car was located.

Her family grew concerned after Baker failed to pick up her 2-year-old son from a relative’s house, which was unlike her.

“I’m out here because I was concerned, just like the full community is concerned,” Robinson said. “I’m very proud that the community came together to look for Frezja.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call CMPD at 704-432-8477 (TIPS) or Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
