A serious crash early Sunday sent three people to the hospital — including one flown by helicopter — after their vehicle left the road and landed in a culvert in King Ferry.

The King Ferry Fire Department responded around 1:30 a.m. to the 700 block of Route 34B after a call from Cayuga County 911. Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle off the roadway with three people inside.

One flown by helicopter, two taken by ambulance

One of the occupants was airlifted from the scene by LifeNet of New York. The other two were taken by ground ambulance to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

Southern Cayuga Ambulance, Four Town First Aid Squad, and Groton Fire Department were all assigned to patient care and transport. Groton’s ambulance later returned to service after the other agencies took over.

Genoa Volunteer Fire Department assisted with mutual aid. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office handled the law enforcement response.

The cause of the crash hasn’t been released. There’s no word yet on the conditions of the three people injured.
